Smart Gate Entry, Video Intercom & Access Control

Your gate is the first thing guests see — and your first line of security. Metamorphosis Environments designs and installs complete gate automation and access systems, so you can see who’s at the gate, speak with them, and let them in from anywhere. We pair professional-grade DoorBird IP video intercoms with your gate operator, network, and smart-home system for an entrance that’s as elegant as it is secure.

What Does an Automatic Driveway Gate Cost?

The honest answer is that it depends on four things, and any installer who quotes a flat number before seeing your property is guessing.

Gate size and material. A single swing gate in aluminum sits at the low end. A pair of custom wrought-iron or clad-wood gates spanning a 16-foot drive sits at the high end, and the gate itself is often the largest line item.

Swing or slide. Swing gates need clear arc space and a level approach. Slide gates need room alongside the opening but handle slopes and tight entries that swings cannot.

Power and trenching. If there is no power at the gate, the trench run from the house is frequently the single biggest cost driver — more than the operator itself.

Access and integration. A keypad alone is straightforward. A DoorBird video intercom, license-plate recognition, safety loops, and full integration into Control4 add capability and cost.

For estates in Hunt Country and Palm Beach, most complete installations land in a range wide enough that a site visit is the only responsible way to quote.

Sliding vs Swing: Which Is Right for Your Entrance?

Choose swing gates if your drive is level near the road, you have room for the gates to open inward without hitting a slope or wall, and you want the traditional estate look. Swing gates are generally quieter and, for a given width, less expensive.

Choose a slide gate if your drive rises or falls at the entrance, you are short on arc space, or you want faster cycle times. Slide gates need a clear run alongside the opening, and the track or cantilever hardware costs more — but on a sloped entry they are often the only workable choice.

Two things worth knowing before you decide: swing gates on an upward slope need special hinging or they bind, and slide gates in areas with heavy leaf fall need their track kept clear.

What Is Involved in Installation?

  1. Site survey. We measure the opening, check the grade, and locate the nearest power.
  2. Posts and footings. Gate posts carry serious load and need proper concrete footings below frost line — this is where cheap installations fail first.
  3. Power and low-voltage. Trenching for line power to the operator, plus conduit for intercom, cameras, and network.
  4. Operator and gate. We install Allomatic gate operators for reliability, then mount and align the gate leaves.
  5. Safety devices. Photo eyes and safety loops so the gate never closes on a vehicle, pet, or person. Not optional.
  6. Access and integration. DoorBird intercom, keypad, RFID, remotes, and integration with your cameras, network, and Control4 system.
  7. Commissioning. We test every cycle, every access method, and every safety device before we hand it over.

Should You DIY a Driveway Gate?

Some of it, honestly, yes. If you are comfortable with concrete work and basic wiring, a simple solar-powered swing kit on a flat, short drive is within reach for a capable homeowner.

Where DIY goes wrong is footings, safety devices, and power. Undersized footings let posts drift within a season and the gates stop meeting. Skipped photo eyes create a genuine hazard. And running line power to the gate is licensed electrical work in most jurisdictions.

If your entrance involves a slope, a span over about 12 feet, or any integration with your home system, the labor saved rarely covers the rework.

Common Questions

Will the gate open if the power goes out?
Yes. Our installations include battery backup, and every operator has a manual release so you are never trapped in or out.

Can I see and let in a visitor when I am not home?
That is the core of what we install. The DoorBird intercom sends the call to your phone wherever you are — you see the visitor in HD video, speak with them, and open the gate with one tap.

How do I give access to a housekeeper or landscaper?
Unlimited access codes, each assignable to a person and restricted to specific days and time windows. Revoke any of them instantly.

Does it work with my existing cameras and Control4?
Yes. We integrate the gate with your cameras, network, and Control4 system so the entrance is part of the house rather than a separate thing to manage.

How long does installation take?
Most residential installations run two to four days on site, longer if trenching distances are significant or custom gates are being fabricated.
